Special Features

Re-sawn Reclaimed Railroad Tie (RRT) Board Plaques

Attractive and uniquely interesting engraved re-sawn RRT board plaques are truly one of a kind since each board is unlike any other due to staining, discolorations, aging, species and use conditions.

To insure customer satisfaction, a picture of the actual plaque board with a transparent computer overlay of the locomotive showing the exact engine position and appearance of the plaque is provided to the purchaser, prior to engraving.

Typical RRT plaque sizes [WxL] proportional to subject locomotives: [4x14”or18”] and [6.5x24”,26”,28”,or32”]

Each sequentially numbered plaque has at least one actual spike hole or original manufacturers pre-drilled pilot hole, demonstrating the authenticity of the board.

A clear sealer and finish is applied to each RRT board plaque to enhance the natural color shadings and patina of the wood.

The polyurethane sealer conforms to EPA advisories for use of previously treated wood.

A transparent label noting rail line tie source, species, preservative used and EPA advisory is placed on the back surface of each plaque.

Selected Hardwood Board Plaques

The elegance of the Berkompas locomotive drawings is complimented by the natural beauty and rich patina of selected hardwoods.

Selections may be made from our standard species choices including; white oak, red oak, cherry, maple, birch, poplar and red alder. Special orders may include other species selected by our customer.

Typical Hardwood plaque sizes [WxL] proportional to subject locomotives: [8x10”][4x12or14”] and [6.5x22”,24”,26”,or28”]

Each hardwood plaque is sequentially numbered and the species is identified.

Plastic Laminate Plaques

The meticulous detail of a Berkompas drawing is dramatically captured on our unnumbered Laminate Plaque engravings.

Translucent or solid laminate materials in a variety of color combinations are available. Common color choices might include black on gold (gold subject), brass on black (black subject), and black on white (white subject). Other color combinations are listed elsewhere.

Berkompas Laminate plaque sizes are proportional to the locomotive with horizontal margins of 2 and vertical margins of 1.5”.

Translucent engravings may be displayed on an attractive back light system we have created as an exciting and interesting alternative for subject presentations.

Cast Acrylic Plaques

Acrylic materials whether transparent or opaque are available in various colors and with a multitude of patterns and textures. A clear transparent acrylic with a glass like appearance is also available.

The rich frosted appearance of a Berkompas locomotive in transparent acrylic makes a wonderful desk top presentation or shelf display plaque. A locomotive silhouette cutout with frosted details offers an unusual display alternative.

Conventional plaques are unnumbered with sizes proportional to the subject locomotive. Horizontal margins are 2 and vertical margins are 1.5”.

A cutout engraving conforms to the actual scaled dimensions of the locomotive with a rectangular bottom margin for the herald, locomotive title and signature.
